I Was There is a new take on social networking. It offers users event driven posts where they can share experiences with other users, posting pictures, videos, and text based stories about events in their lives. It also gives back to the community because a minimum of 20% of subscription proceeds will be donated to organizations supporting those experiencing poverty, homelessness, and mental health issues. The app is free to download, and some sections will always be free to use.
I Was There was created to honour Savannah Bell, creator Kathy Bell’s daughter, who passed away in 2025 after struggling with her mental health for a decade. Savannah was a software developer and lived in Seattle at the time of her death. This app is a tribute to her courage, her energy, and her passion.
Blips are events. Blip threads are about shared experiences such as concerts, sporting events, festivals, or any other community occasion. Anyone can create a Blip for any type of event, and anyone can upload their media and narratives in the form of Echoes.
Blips will always be free to all users.
Cairns are memorials. Cairn threads allow users to connect around the loss of a loved one. Anyone can create a Cairn to honor someone they have lost, or even to remember their pet, and anyone can upload media and narratives to share stories and memories.

Monuments are achievements. Monument threads celebrate accomplishments and wins, from buying a first home to graduation to getting a promotion. These Milestones can either be a community announcement or individually proclaimed.
Landmarks are destinations. Landmark threads revolve around global locations. Threads can be for destinations, either by category or specific point on the map. Want to know where Glowing Lagoons exist? Check the thread. Been to a Black Sand Beach? Share to the thread! Or, join or create a thread for any place.
Landmarks can also be used for journeys and routes! Taking a day trip? Following a path? Travelling a continent? Create a Landmark thread for your journey and add your individual stops to your ongoing record. Route 66 or the Underground Railroad or El Camino are all examples of routes where a set path is followed and many users will add their experiences of the route.
Pebbles are all about you. They are individual experiences not connected to other users except through our natural desire to share. Toss a Pebble and see if it makes a splash!
Pebbles, Monuments, and Landmarks are available only to subscribers, as is direct messaging. Subscriptions are currently available for $5/month or $25/year, with a minimum of $1 or $5 respectively going to charity starting with the United Way of Bruce Grey as the first donation recipient at the end of the Share-A-Van promotional period.
